Question by Kevin: wireless router question?
I have a computer set up in my shop. about 75 ft from the house. the wireless modem is on the closest wall by a window. the Wireless thing that gets the signal is on the nearest wall with no window near. Im thinking of cutting a hole in the wall and putting a jar or something the get this little wireless device a little better signal MY QUESTION if i did something this would you think a pickle jar would distort the signal Or a little Plexiglas box? i need to keep it out of the elements. it might be a bad idea cuz of the cold even tho the shop is heated. my wireless modem is the largest area fcc alows according to my reserch. anyideas how to boost the signel?

you can set up like foil plates to bounce the signal but 75ft is a little far

The antenna does indeed help pull in weaker stations with a little moving around to find the optimal angle.
Why Bose does not include this with the radio is beyond my comprehension, except to fleece the consumer out
    of another $10

Get something cheaper at Radio Shack, August 12, 2009

This antenna works fine – I did not get much of a radio signal in my apartment before adding the antenna, but I wish I had just picked one up at a Radio Shack or Best Buy or something. There’s nothing special about this product, and you can get one much cheaper at any electronics store. The bose antenna is also really long and can be unsightly – for the same price you can get something more compact.

I have a Bose Wave Radio. The sound is great and I play CDs on it a lot, but I couldn’t get public radio because we live deep in a valley. This simple little device run up the wall behind the 16X20 photos of my grandchildren works great. Now on Saturday nights I can listen to OldTime Radio.

  4. 100 ft range for wifi is easily possible. But if three walls comes in between the wifi and receiver then most probably it will not work. there are booster antennas available for wifi.

  5. If it were me, I would add an external CPE (or access point) to the shop and bring the signal into your laptop by ethernet cable. These little CPE’s are nothing more than a receiver/antenna combination that connect to your laptop. They allow good signals from several MILES! (yes really) so 75 foot would be nothing and your laptop will work well.

Check for units from Ubiquiti http://ubnt.com/nanostation or EnGenius http://streakwave.com/ItemDesc.asp?ic=EOC-1650 etc You don’t need a really big antenna etc. These are 39-49 at online stores but are hard to locate in “retail stores” they usually don’t have a clue they exist! The units are designed to be outdoor mounted on a wall or roof and pointed at the router you wish to connect into…. they just connect and work. Power is supplied to them with power over ethernet.
