Astonishingly Poor Performance, April 19, 2012

I knew not to expect the world with a card this cheap, but I did have SOME expectations. Here’s my story.

It installed easily, and consistently appeared to have an extremely strong connection. The key word is “appeared.” I performed speed test after speed test, and the results were the worst I’ve ever seen on any computer. Just as a point of comparison, when I ran the same test at the same time with my laptop, I consistently got 18-20mbps for a download speed. To this card’s credit, two of the tests I ran with the computer it was plugged into returned with a speed of 8-9mbps. The other dozen or so tests, however, were consistently less than 1mbps. When I dared to try doing other things on the internet while the test ran, not only did the pages load at a snail’s pace, but the test barely pulled off .1mbps. I could have accepted it running at 2/3 the speed of my laptop, but less than 1/20 was laughably unacceptable. I returned the card the same day I got it.

This card may be for you if you have a bad dial-up connection, but anyone with broadband would do well to stay away.

Win 7 did not recognized this wireless, and did not fetch driver for it automatically. Perhaps it is too new to be in the OS database of wireless adapters.
Once the driver is loaded from included CD though, adapter works. Reception for signals from 2 rooms away increased significantly over that with a USB plug-in unit being replaced. I am happy with the performance.

I had not heard of this company before in the world of wireless though I can’t say I was really seeking every company out. I had tried products from TP-Link and D-Link first hand so I was a bit hesitant to try something new. The price seemed way right, and I was looking for something to pair with my faster wireless N router at the time. This little device really surprised me.

I was expecting average speeds with probably a bit of driver issues and some connectivity issues now and again. Nope nope and nope! I think I have only had issues with connecting to my router on two different occasions and both of those I cannot place blame directly on this adapter. It has great speeds, and I have not had issues in multiplayer games with latency at all. Download speeds seem snappy and webpages load very fast. For the price, this adapter is too good to pass up.

  4. no you can’t…thats the point of a wireless card. it gives you wireless connects, you will have to plug in a ethernet no matter what you can get a wireless router but you’d need a ethernet to connect that wireless router to your computer

  5. There are some usb wireless devices. Although they are not that good…

  6. A wireless usb device.

  7. they make wireless USB adaptors.

  8. uh you can get a usb wireless card it is the only other way besides upgrading your mother board to a bigger one.

  9. did u check whether ur mother board have a wireless card inbuilt (some motherboards do come with wireless card). if not try a USB wireless adapter. b4 u buy this check what kind of wireless frequency ur router supports (it goes from B,G,N but most of these adapters are back word compatible so don’t worry too much) .
