Running a photobooth for a convention over the weekend, was very successful.
Here’s how things worked (Strobist info included)
As you can see, we had the backdrop simply made of crepe paper streamers, simple, effective, colorful, cheap and disposable. My only regret here was that I could have used a 10 Foot background instead of 7 foot. Oh Well…
Lighting : Key was a 45w/s dumb fire strobe through an umbrella up front. Two rim lights on either side were 40 w/s dumb fire strobes with small gobos to prevent flare (visible in shot)
Whole lot was triggered using wireless system
Eye-Fi X2 Pro in Pentax K200d with Tamron 28-200 lens on it.
Photos auto imported into lightroom, and printed on a Canon Selphy printer.

The end result? Images in about 2 min, and we could shoot, and shoot, and shoot.
Minor variations, like turning off the Key yielded a more dramatic rim light effect, or by turning off one of the rims, a more traditional portrait look.

Take a look through, there’s a whole set of these images.

Epson T200120 DURABrite Ultra Standard-Capacity Black Ink Cartridge

Brilliant results. Smart value. Replace only the color you need with individual ink cartridges. Best of all, only one set of cartridges is needed to print amazing documents and great photos. There’s no need to spend additional money on specialized cartridges to print on either plain or photo paper. Epson’s revolutionary DURABrite Ultra Ink produces smudge, fade and water resistant prints that look brilliant on both plain and glossy photo paper.

  • Better quality than the lab
  • Worry-free handling – smudge, fade and water resistant prints
  • Convenient individual ink cartridges

Not much ink. Good quality, December 18, 2012

This review is from: Epson T200120 DURABrite Ultra Standard-Capacity Black Ink Cartridge (Office Product)

With average use, this cartridge barely lasts a month.

I was, at first, delightfully surprised by how affordable Epson ink is compared to HP. …only to find out that, under average use, this cartridge has only a fraction of ink the (seemingly) more costly cartridges have. I’d rather pay more for a greater sum of ink. Then I’d only have to shop for & replace cartridges 2-3 times a year. At this rate, I’ll be shopping every few weeks & lifting the hood to replace them as often.

What’s worse is that, if magenta, yellow or cyan run low, THE PRINTER WON’T ALLOW YOU TO PRINT WITH YOUR FULL BLACK CARTRIDGE. So, I’m forced to buy magenta, just to use my full black cartridge. If I ran short on color, my HP would allow me to use black. If I ran short on black, I could use blue.

I’m also quite turned-off by the misleading name. There is nothing ‘ultra’ about a tiny cartridge that doesn’t even last a month. Epson offers a “High Capacity” ink which I’ve only found at Office Depot & Epson’s site. It has twice the ink. What’s that, a whopping 6-7 weeks of printing?

WF-2540 is a nice, affordable printer, but these tiny cartridges & their misleading names are a disappointment. I miss my old HP printer. I’d change the ink, print til my heart’s content & wouldn’t have to worry about ink for months. That printer lasted ten years.

This ink is no more affordable than others. You get what you pay for – little price, little ink. It’s just rather inconvenient.

Because of the ink, I’m now selling my Epson on Craigslist & going back to HP>

Decent Color Quality, But Runs Out Fast, April 7, 2013

These cartridges are very inexpensive, especially if you buy multi packs. They’re decent for most printing jobs, but not necessarily for true color printing of photos that you want to display or keep permanently.

The package is misleading. The “ultra-standard capacity” just means that these are standard capacity cartridges. I’m not sure what the “ultra” is all about.

I noticed that even though my computer showed the estimated ink level to be 50%, the printer was telling the computer that it could not print because the cartridge was out of ink.

Still, ounce for ounce and page for page, I think these cartridges are cheaper than the HP ink cartridges. I finally scrapped HP after getting tired of buying ridiculously expensive ink cartridges, not being able to print B&W when there was plenty of black ink, but no cyan; warnings that using third party ink cartridges voided the HP warranty; and having a printer driver that was flakey at best with Windows 7 (and Vista before that).

The bottom line is these cartridges are inexpensive, and in the long run, I think they’re adequate for a basic printer (school projects, home office printing, etc.).

Nice to have all colors in one box, except I wish it had black. These cartridges just do not last long at all.
