The HOD10IP Hi-Gain Outdoor Dual-Band 10dBi Omni-Directional Antenna Kit is a heavy-duty, weather proof antenna for extending the range of your 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi devices. The HOD10IP increases the wireless strength from a standard 2dBi (decibels) to a staggering 10dBi, resulting in a 300% increase in the wireless coverage and strength. The 2.4 GHz is the most commonly used wireless bandwidth. It also has a limited number of bandwidth for multiple activities, such as sending emails, video chatting, streaming movies, playing games, etc. In addition, the same 2.4 GHz frequency is also shared between different devices (i.e. laptops, tablets, smart phones, TV, gaming consoles, and other common household devices like microwaves and cordless phones). Ultimate Flexibility and Maximum Performance using Dual-Band

The 2.4GHz frequency is the most commonly used wireless bandwidth. It also has limited bandwidth for multiple activities, such as sending emails, video chatting, streaming movies, playing games, etc. In addition, the same 2.4GHz frequency is used by other wireless routers in the area, as well as some common household devices such as cordless phones and microwaves. This causes interference and major backlog with your online activities. Dual-Band technology fixes these issues by providing the 5.0GHz frequency. This allows compatible devices to connect to the more open 5.0GHz channels, eliminating the 2.4GHz interference, thus speeding up your internet. The HOD10IP strengthens and extends the Dual-Band Signal for long range, high traffic wireless networks.

Omni-Directional Antenna For 360-Degree Horizontal Wireless Coverage

This type of antenna has a donut shape signal pattern which allows 360-degree horizontal coverage and up to 13-degree vertical coverage. It’s ideal for point-to-multiple point long range wireless environments.

Plug-and-Play Installation

Simply replace the antenna on your device with the HOD10IP. The HOD10IP antenna is built with a N-Type connector and comes with one N-Type to SMA adapter, the most commonly used antenna connector. For other types of adapters, please visit www.hawkingtech.com for additional selections. Outdoor Antenna cable is sold separately. Select the right length to minimize your cable loss. Question by timone2cute: what can i use to make my laptop wireless?
i wanna make my laptop be able to go online from a long distance away from the wireless modem. so far now the farthest it can go from the modem is outside my house a couple of feet. i wanna have internet connection from at least in 500 feet, does anyone know of something i could possibly connect to my laptop so that it could go at least that far?

You can try a Range Booster, but 500ft is a stretch for any wireless signal.

    I have had limited success with the so called duel band antenna replacements on the market. Many of them do not work at all for 5Ghz. Most are the same as come stock. This one really works. My application is to run a WiFi Cloud over a 15 acre nursery. We use WiFi devices for inventory control so coverage and throughput needs to be robust (bars do not count we test throughput.). I have numerous routers and antenna involved and have recently started having issues with interference from neighbors and devices running at 2.4Ghz. I tested several N class duel band routers and settled on the Asus RT N66U – AC mainly because the Non AC unit and the AC unit appeared to work exactly the same at 5Ghz N and some day AC might be in handheld wireless devices..The limit we faced was 5Ghz did not work with our big antennas we had installed.

    We bought one of these in the first weeks of Hawkin’s offer and saw a huge improvement from what we had before. I just ordered 3 more and will probably order more for other properties..

    Caution to those using external antenna. Use of Big Heavy cable can easily break the fragile connector on the router. I have trashed many routers from this. What breaks is the connection to the circuit board on the inside. Use a small diameter flexible cable and do not over tighten. If you think the big antenna is not working…Check for the broken connector (they are loose, wiggle and turn). I bet you find one.

    Give only ”Horizontal” signal. Not good for a 3-story building.

    The maximum cable length between antenna and router is 30 feets.

  3. Add a range extender to the modem

  4. If your laptop does not have a wireless card built in you can purchase one that will plug into your usb port and that will work. Here is a link that might help you.

  6. wireless is a send recieve system your laptop sends data with its wireless signal to the router then your router uses its signal to pick that up then reply etc.

    you would need to increaase the range of the wireless on both the laptop and the router, the only way to do something like that would be to use a wireless N card in your laptop and upgrade your router also.

    this wouldnt guarantee 500ft though this sort of distance you may need another access point closer to the destination

  7. At *least* 500 feet? That’s a stretch…

    The normal range of wireless routers is about 300 feet (in open space, with no obstructions like walls, floors etc) If you put a wireless range extender right at the exit of your house, that might give you another 150 feet or so.

    Or you could use a separate wireless network card & connect an external directional antenna (there’s no way to connect one of these to your built-in wifi card) If you go that route, get the antenna first, then buy a network adapter which is confirmed to be compatible.

    Supposedly these can be connected to routers, as well (presumably models which have the coax mounted antenna in the first place)
