Does not work for 1080p, December 23, 2009

Pros: cheap price, long length, works up to 1080i

Cons: does not work with 1080p

I am using this cable to connect my computer to a 47″ LCD. It works perfectly up to 1080i. With 1080p (both 50 and 60 Hz), there is much extra green and some blue band distortion, indicating the cable cannot deliver the bandwidth necessary for these resolutions.

For my use, since I’m not willing to pay for a more expensive cable at this time, I will be using 1080i. In the future, I’ll be upgrading the cable to one that can do 1080p 60Hz.

If all you need a long cable up to 1080i, this cable is an excellent deal. If you need 1080p, this cable will not be usable.

    Awesome Cable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, December 8, 2010

Well, to start with, this cable will not blow you away from its actual look, but its functionality is the key element here. The cable is actually able to reproduce 1080P from devices that are able to reproduce 1080P graphics. Example of this is one common problem that many people around here(comment/reviews area) encounter as the main downside of the cable. If you want to connect your laptop to your HDTV, first you need to have a laptop/desktop with a capable-to-reproduce-1080P graphics card, and second to have a 1080P Full HDTV. If you got a 720P(or less) laptop/desktop screen resolution(or graphics card related), DO NOT expect this cable to make you the miracle and reproduce your output signal in 1080P on your TV(assuming that your TV is a 1080p FULL). Got to have both devices with this capability(1080p FULL); otherwise, it won’t do the miracle for you. So for those complaining about this cable, suck it up and get the right equipment before you comment about something you have no clue of its functionality.

Steps to follow IF you want to get 1080P full:

1- Get a 1080p FULL LCD or TV
2- Get a laptop/desktop(HDMI direct INPUT(no adapters)) that has an ATI(gaming card)/NVIDIA/ or any other graphic cards that are able to reproduce or support 1080p Fluid motion( not just mimic it; just like some 720p TVs or monitors do nowadays).
2- If you’re using a desktop, you need to get a display(monitor) with a resolution equal to 1600 x 900 or higher. The same goes for laptops.
3- Plug the cable on each device. Note: if you’re using your computer with Windows 7 Ultimate, it most likely, the monitor recognition will be automatic.
    4- Enjoy!!!

If your TV is higher(in resolution)than your computer, then the image you’ll see on your TV will NOT take the whole LCD screen(full screen). The signal will only take the exact resolution of your computer(LCD or monitor) on your HDTV(it scales the signal but keeping the 1080P resolution ALWAYS).

    Hope this review helps.

Works as well as a 6′ cable, June 14, 2009

I have this cable connecting my home theater PC to my HDTV. I am running a resolution of 1920 x 1440 at a 60 Hz refresh rate, the maximum my HDTV will accept. The display looks great, and is identical to the display I get with a 6′ cable.

  4. HDMI port mostly come from ur graphic card . So you might you upgrade your card with hdmi . And im not sure if your audio card is support HDMI mode . Most likely not since HDMI output doesnt come with ur HP desktop. So you have to play with alternative speakers . Its decent quality depend on ur TV resolution and ur graphic card as well. Ive been using hdmi to play HD Movie on my 55′ Sony LED LCD . The quality is amazing since i have second fastest mobility graphic card radeon hd 5870.

  5. If it a new system from HP it probably more than sufficient for most people’s needs.
The problem with connecting it to a television monitor is the TV may not support a high enough resolution and the graphics will suffer.

Try looking up the model number of your HDTV and find out what resolutions it will support. You may find that you’d be better off purchasing a pc monitor.

  6. The ironic thing about HP is that they (a long time ago) got a well-deserved reputation for really high quality hardware. Now, their desktops are crap quality, to put it bluntly. But they still sell well, as HP still has a reputation for high quality, which HP does no longer deserve…

So you buy HP thinking it’s going to be good and (ironically) that’s the exact wrong approach now.

To be fair, none of the prebuilt systems are good quality. So if you are buying a prebuilt system, you are choosing the least of the evils. That would be (currently) anything made by Acer, which includes “Gateway”.

Not that Acer/Gateway is great quality either, but they are usually just a tad better than other brands for the same price.

In short, what you should be looking for is a “Gateway” system with an HDMI output on the motherboard. Order it online to save money…and toss an HDMI cable into the cart, as well. Retail (brick and mortar) prices of HDMI cables are so high, they should be illegal.
