Wireless setup for the Brother™ MFC-7860DW Printer.

Question by TimeAndSpace: How do you use a wireless printer?
Hello! So my computer is well dying, but I’m planning on buying another laptop for uni next year, my brother also has a laptop as well which is connected to our home wireless internet. My question is, does my wireless printer have to be connected to a computer that is turned on in order for me to print from a laptop? The printer is already set to sharing so my brothers laptop is able to print from it currently.
Thanks!

No, as long as the printer is on it should be fine.

What customers say about How to Set Up Wireless for the Brother™ MFC-7860DW Printer?

  1. If a printer is not on dont expect paper to be coming out. The printer has to be connected to the router or a hub. Download drivers for your computer and print. Easy and simple. Yes your printer has to be turned on.

  2. If it is a wireless printer then it is talking to your wireless router and it is not physically connected to a computer.

Any computer that can talk to the router (wired or wireless) can talk to the printer and print.

  3. It really depends on how the printer is connected. If the printer is connected with a physical cable (i.e. USB) to a computer that is on a wireless network, then the computer must be on and sharing the printer in order to print.

If the printer is connected wirelessly directly to another computer and not to an actual router/hub/switch, then the same thing applies as above.

If the wireless printer is setup as a direct wireless connection to the wireless router and not through another computer, then anyone can print to it without any other computer being on except the one you’re using to print with. You just need to install the necessary printer driver and setup the connection to the printer’s wireless settings through the router connection.
