Oh the pain of removing an Airport Extreme card from a 17 inch Powerbook. That’s it buried under the keyboard, modem and PCMCIA card cage.

I got a new laptop some months back. It came with an Intel Centrino N6150 which has WMAX added but no blue tooth. Also it only had 802.11 b/g/n.

The N6230 was inexpensive, easy to install, and worked after boot-up. In that it has 802.11 a/b/g/n, there is more bandwidth for faster speeds when connecting to my routers 802.11 a/n for streaming video. I can now utilize the full potential of my NETGEAR router, and can pair devices with Bluetooth.

Received it in a small little bubble and static wrapped packaging.
Did a minor “operation” on my laptop to pop out the old one and slot in this new one.
Afterwards everything just went on automatic installation…..smooth as butter.

Even though installation in the new XPS 17 is a pain it was worthwhile. The Intel 1030 card that came with my laptop had to go (only had the computer one day before deciding). I get good speeds and the connection is consistent. The 5Ghz connection is definitely more reliable then the 2.4Ghz connection. My old laptop a Dell Studio XPS 16 had the Intel 5120 which still works flawlessly.
