Question by David G: How do you connect to the internet through a Dell Inspiron 6000 with an internal wireless card. ?
How do you connect to the internet through a Dell Inspiron 6000 with an internal wireless card. We just recently had to take my daughter’s computer to have the files retrieved and system restored. It used to be able to get on the internet but not anymore since we picked up from repair. The network connections show the 1394 adapter is connected but I am getting no packets sent or received. I can get on the web by using an external belkin adapter. Thanks.

Answer by John L
1394 is for your firewire, not your internet. Make sure the wireless card is properly installed with all the drivers. If so, you should be able to see it in your network connections, and connect to your network through that.

Perfect replacement in 3 yo Dell laptop. Wireless connection had always been glitchy with installed 5100 card, then the card died. Replaced with 5300 which is also dual band. Easy inexpensive fix and wireless connection works flawlessly now.

This unit fit my Dell E6500, and works perfectly. Vendor provided the part very quickly. I have no issues with the part or the vendor. Great folks to deal with.

  4. Hi. Try right clicking on the wireless icon and select “View available connections”, then try connect. If the system you try to connect to is secure you will need a key.

  5. Try unistalling and reinstalling the card.

Go to Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager> and go to the internal wireless card

  6. hummm… some dell computers have multiple drivers for the built in wireless, sounds like the repair man installed the wrong one. go to dell.com and go to the driver/downlaod section under support, once in the driver/download section type and look up the wireless driver for your computer.

  7. When my dell came back from repair, the wireless didn’t work either until they took the back off and snapped in the card correctly. Take it back as ask them why?
