Question by Bela: How to stream video to iPad from network without computer?
Hi, could you tell me how to stream video to iPad from network without computer?

Best answer:

Answer by Honda Kurlen
The innocuously-named FileBrowser is an iPad app which lets you access files on your computer more than the local network or the internet. This is a function shared by roughly 1 zillion other apps within the store. What makes FileBrowser different is that it can access network-attached storage (NAS), letting you stream video to iPad from a Time Capsule or other network drive without switching on a personal computer. Do not buy this product, October 19, 2012

After flashing the firmware with an update from Iomega’s own website, and following their instructions exactly, it bricked the device, and now it’s completely useless. Iomega refuse to replace the device, even though it was their own update that broke it. I will never buy another Iomega product again, and hope to spare anybody else the same experience.

I bought this EZ 3 weeks ago since it was supposed to be simple and easy to set up.

    It is NOT!

I spend several nights to get it to work on my MAC and failed. After a number of factory resets of the EZ and messed up permission rights on my MAC, I contacted the Iomega technical support via the forum. But they only advised to contact their telephone support ($25 per call).
I tried to solve the issue via the ONE to ONE chat but they could not help me either. After about one hour they advised to contact their telephone support ($25 per call!).

I decided to give up and use it just as an external HD, but every attempt to copy something with subfolders ends in an error.

On a positive note: I got the cloud function to work and when eventually (IF) I find a way to store something onto the device I will have access to it via internet.

Iomega advised that I cannot return it….!

Completely unsatisfactory. Deceptively marketed to Linux users., August 24, 2012

I’ll be quick. The device is marketed as compatible with Linux clients. It isn’t. It
won’t work. The only two network protocols available are CIFS (Windows File Sharing) and
rsync. And rsync doesn’t work. Once you finally get the 32-bit storage manager program
installed (tough to do on a 64-bit machine (x86_64) like mine), you will learn that there
is no way to transfer files from your Linux machine to the NAS device.

Here’s the email received from IOMega technical support department following my telephone
    call:

“Thank you for using Iomega’s Online Support Services. I sincerely apologize for any
inconvenience you may have experienced using your Iomega product.

Thanks for sending the dump file. I spoke to one of our advanced support group about the
problems you are having and he confirmed that the EZ Media is really not the right tool (no
NFS and an extremely limited rsync.) Check out the new IX2 (or for that matter one of the
earlier ix series devices.) They all have NFS and full rsync capabilities.”

There you have it. They sold me a device advertised as supporting Linux and acknowledged,
after purchase, that it doesn’t – but that the fix is to buy another device costing nearly
    twice as much.

Chance are thin that we’ll be purchasing any more IOmega products.
