I could use ethernet, but i only have one jack and i need to connect my mac and my ps3 to the internet. How can i extend my network wirelessly without having to connect my modem to something, because it won’t reach. Please help.

by law routers have limited wireless power, you can use a powerline mains adapter, or a repeater(but that halves the data rate) you can buy a booster antenna if yours is detachable, or you can buy a signal amplifier , n routers have better range than g routers, or buy a four port router on ebay for a few dollars and connect a cable for the most reliable connection

I bought the SBG900 about 3 years ago to replace a Dell wireless router and comcast modem. It has been running smmothly so far. I have 1 computer attached via ethernet to it and 4 others wirelessly (1 XP, 2 vista and 1 Mac). the signal covers a 40 feet radius easily, through walls and into the attic. I also recently attached a vonage device to this setup and I have had no problems with call quality. I am pleased with the product. My only wish was that it had more ethernet sockets as I am now dependent on the wireless capability to the limit.

This was the same modem Time Warner was going to charge me a monthly fee for, and I have now lowered my bill by $14.00 per month and will pay for itself in a matter of months.

I’m very happy with this product. I really don’t know anything about electronic stuff so my son who is an IT Specialist researched available products for me and recommended this one. It is working fine, it looks good, & it doesn’t take much room. And the price was right!

  4. I’m a bit confused. You have a Motorola (cable?) modem with one Ethernet port connected to a wireless Netgear router. Presumably that connection is to the Netgear’s Internet port. Are there no other ports on the back of the Netgear router? What model is the router? I have never encountered one that doesn’t have at least four LAN ports on it in addition to the Internet port. There are Wireless Access Points that have only a single Ethernet port, but those are rarely routers.

If you can run an Ethernet cable (no more than 100 meters or so max), that’s the best thing to do. If your current router doesn’t have more than one Ethernet port for your LAN, buy a new one. They are cheap. If running the cable is prohibitive, you could try either buying a wireless network extender that is essentially a signal repeater – it just amplifies and retransmits whatever it receives. One example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833164048 There are a number to look at. Some wireless access points can also run in bridge and/or extender mode as well.

Another possibility is to use a higher gain antenna or a cantenna (or other directional antenna). Check out http://www.cantenna.com/

  5. Here is an easier way than running cable.

It send the signal across the electric power outlets in your home – works well!
