Question by Buffy: My wireless antenna isn’t working in Ubuntu?

Answer by Fratzz
I think Ubuntu 9.10 should work well with most wireless devices. I guess one of the best ways is to use a compatible hardware with Ubuntu. That way Ubuntu will pick it up without any issues.

Ok I just stuck a Dlink usb dongle into the pc and it did the “just works” thing. Almost like a MAC!!! ( i dont have a MAC and will not pay that kind of money for one!!)

Just a quick response to the one review that was posted when I wrote this- this was plug-n-play with a Raspberry Pi running Raspbian (Debian), so there are certainly Linux drivers out there, though they may not be on the disk that comes with it (who uses those disks anyway?).

I’ve used it for a week or so now, haven’t really bothered to compare throughput or anything, but it seems to do just fine. Before I bought it (took a chance on a sale direct from China for cheap, sorry Amazon) I had borrowed a wireless router set up in client bridge mode from a gaming set-up in the house, and this certainly seems to work as well.

They really should include something in the photo to give an idea of scale, this is not nearly as bulky as one might think at a glance. The horizontal footprint is about the size of a deck of playing cards, and it weighs very little, it’s a lot more portable than it looks. It certainly isn’t one of those little dongles that will disappear into a USB port, but if you’re carrying a case or bag for your notebook anyway it’s not a big deal, and it will certainly have a lot more range.
