Wireless B!? That router is way beyond its years. Those old pre-cisco routers were pathetic, impossible to get running, and usually died within a year or two.

You’d be better served to buy a cheap, crummy no-name router for $ 10 than to try to get that thing to work.

Product Has Fatal Flaw (NOW CORRECTED), June 16, 2013

This review is from: RE2000 (Linksys Wireless Range Extender N300 Dual Band) (Personal Computers)

I recently purchased two of these so I could extend both the 2.4ghz and 4.8ghz networks of my dual band Linksys router. The CD assisted auto setup did not work the first couple of times but eventually I got both set up. The manual Ethernet setup is actually very easy as an alternate setup method. The extenders worked great for the first day, seamlessly extending the networks. However, after one day one of the units began flashing an irregular pattern, stopped sending an identifiable signal, and was inaccessible via Ethernet or wireless. I returned it via RMA to the seller (not Amazon although I am a frequent Amazon customer). Yesterday the second RE2000 developed the exact same problem after 10 days of use. I have found other users on the Linksys customer forum who have had the same issue with their units. There is obviously a problem and I would advise readers not to purchase this product until the problem is solved.

FOLLOW UP ON PROBLEM RESOLUTION: Now 10 days after the above review I would like to add that I have worked with the Linksys engineers over the phone and in the end they have confirmed that there is a batch of RE200’s that have been sold with defective chips. They recommend that anyone with these faulty units return them to the seller but if that is not possible they will take them back. I received and set up the unit and it is working perfectly, giving me full home coverage of my 5.8ghz network with 300mb/s speed. Also, the Linksys engineers were extremely knowledgeable, helpful and courteous in my dealings with them.

Let me start by saying I have never written a review before; however, this incredible disaster of a product requires that I write a review. This product is promoted as a simple to hook up product – this is a big line of garbage. I have spent over 3 hours on the phone with tech support and they can’t even tell me why their product isn’t working. I have limited knowledge of this type of product, yet I can conduct the same troubleshooting as is offered through tech support. For the price and difficulty of setup I would not recommend this product. For those of you who think you will be more successful please think again; like I said I don’t write reviews yet this product required me to say something.

I have a Linksys EA4500 Wifi router, I was trying to extend its coverage to my kitchen, that is 10 meters and two walls away from it.
I did some research at cisco.com and find that this new RE2000 is just what I needed to do it, so I bought it.
The day I received it, I opened the box and started to follow the instructions to install it. That was the first set back. The installer does not work and before the installation ends it show an error message and stops.
Because I have some expertise in data networks I did a little web research and found that the RE2000 can be accessed using a web browser, like in the old WRT54G. I did it and perform a manual configuration, It’s a very simple pice of HW so there isn’t a lot of options to configure. I set up a static route to my EA4500, the wifi password to access it and just in case changed the admin password.
It never worked, I have a strong signal now in places that it was no signal before, but I can’t connect to the internet. The most annoying thing is that when I go to the status screen on the RE2000, everything is normal, and I have packages going from and to the router.
Very disappointed, I would like to return it, but because I live outside the US the shipment and taxes are more than the RE2000 value :-(
