Question by Love2teach: What is the best wireless router to use for range, speed, and budget?
I am getting Comcast Infinity internet this Saturday and plan to purchase my own router. I have already bought the recommended Motorola SB6121 modem. I plan to use my laptop upstairs and set up the internet connection downstairs. Any suggestions? (Right now I’m looking at the Linksys WRT54GL, Almond Touch Screen, and Medialink’s Wireless N Broadband Router 150Mbps)

I believe they are all the same, buy by brand name and price.

I’ve not had a lot of luck with cellphone accessories but this one is surprisingly clear and easy to use.

Paired easily with my Galaxy S3, and call quality is excellent for the price. Turns itself off when out of range of phone for a sustained period, saving the considerably excellent battery life. For the price, you simply can’t beat it.

it shuts off all the time if you don’t use it with in about 5 or 10 minutes and I couldn’t hardly hear the caller

  4. I have had very good luck with the LinkSys router you speak of. I bought it refurbished about 3 years ago and haven’t had any trouble with it. My polite and humble suggestion to you is:

    1) turn off your SSID broadcast
    2) enable mac filtering
    3) restrict the total number ip addresses your router gives out (if you’re connecting 3 devices there’s no need for your router to hand out 253 different addresses)
    4) absolutely use WPA2 personal. WEP is only marginally better than nothing at all.
    5) do NOT allow your router to be changed wirelessly
    6) use a nonstandard subnet (something like 192.168.103.1 just to pick one randomly) The reason for this is that if you ever have any inclination to use a VPN you’ll find that absolutely everyone on earth uses the default 192.168.1.1 network and that WILL throw a wrench into your VPN connection).

Now… there’s always someone who wants to pound their chest and say “none of this will keep you from getting hacked”. And that’s completely true. But it isn’t possible to secure a computer. ANY computer. So what you want to do is make it a pita to hack. And most hackers/burglars/whatever are after easy targets. Why would I bust my a** to break into your house when your neighbors are much more accommodating? LOL!

Edit: My bad… actually my router is a predecessor of the one you mention. But either way I’ve had real good luck with LinkSys.
