Question by Ryan: how to open my NAT on a linksys wireless G router?
I’m wondering how to open my NAT on a Linksys wireless G router. I play Modernwarfare 2 on Xbox 360 and PC. I’ve already opened ports 80 ( I think) and 3074. I also turned on my universal plug n play but I still hve a Moderate NAT on Xbox and a strict NAT on PC. What do I do?

Do you know what ports you need open? It’s quite easy. 80 = HTTP. It would have to be open for anyone on your router to get internet period. 3074 i have no idea what that port is for.

What you want is called Port Forwarding. Login to your router and under administration or Applications (depends on how new or old the router is) there you’ll find Port options. Port forwarding is what you want.

Then simply know the IP of your Xbox and put that in as the ip, and type in the port or port ranges to open for the Xbox.

NAT (Network Address Translation) gives you the IP. DONE. What you’re looking into is its close sister called PAT (Port Address Translation).

To be sure i’d use static and save that address as reserved on the router. Then you wont have to worry about your IP changing.

Save and done. Universal Plug and Play (UPNP) is what it sounds like. Plug in…works. USB, Firewire, etc. Nothing to do really with what you want.

Good luck

Update: After four months, this item will no longer send a wifi signal. It broadcasts a signal but the signal no longer broadcasts the wifi signal it was extending. I have reset 20 times, and it works for a while, but then again drops sending the signal

    Installed itself with xp. Simple.
Plugged in socket about 30 feet from router and now I can get good signal for another 30 feet and in the basement.
This worked for me.(see update, above)

This was bought to extend WiFi range from a basement instaled router to an addition with foil faced insulation board which blocked signal, along with a bank of copper piping. Intent was to add a Blue Ray player at the far end of the addition. Setup instructions only provide an IP address which does not display any com[any name or any means of contact, leaving customers with no supprt at all. Several attempts to configure resulted in complete failure. Waste of money.

My problem is that the best location I’ve found to locate the extender doesn’t allow more than 2-3 bars about 40′ from the router and 20′ from the TV, which isn’t enough to stream movies, youtube, etc without glitches or at all. The living room TV/DVD/Wii/Roku/ipad/etc is too far away from my home office where the modem and router are to see more than 1 bar on it’s own and the repeater doesn’t quite get it to where it needs to be. I’ve tried moving the modem and router different distances so my home office PC can still connect while doing the same with the living room, but still it falls short. Since I had an extra Wireless N+ router, I bought another modem and set them up right at the living room TV and now everything connects at 100%, especially if it can use an ethernet cable. I may return the extender since I really don’t need it now. I think it would work well over shorter distances and less obstacles than I have.
