I got this to replace an old DLink that didn’t allow wpa2 keys. This zonet fit the bill as it has all the features that I wanted. WPA2 Keys, Small size, remote management, etc. It setup and works like a charm.

    That’s where the fun stops.

If your network is like mine, the connection is unstable at times and that’s fine. It recovers by itself. What isn’t fine is that this print server will stop at nothing to create endless print jobs telling you what you already know.

    The network is unstable.

The print server cannot receive any printing data.

Please check your network connection and the environment.

Um. Duh? I unplugged my router!

I plugged it back in and somehow my network went down again in the middle of the night and when I woke up, what did I find? An entire ream of paper with that stupid notification telling me that the network is down. Who thought this feature up? Really. Who’s the moron that thought, “Gee.. it would be GREAT if we print out a notice every few seconds until they fix their network, Yeah! The customer will thank us for it!”

I’ve called 10 times and nobody ever picks up the stupid phone over there. I even left multiple messages and not even 1 callback. I left emails. Nothing. My only recourse at this point is to contact the Asian headquarters and bitch them out in Chinese. Seriously. It should be a law that if you sell something in the US, you better stand behind your product. Especially when it wastes consumables that a user pays for without any way to stop it.

Small and good, but a few flaws, May 27, 2011

I bought this to allow the various laptops in our family to share a single printer and not have to depend on any specific machine to be up and running all the time.

This print server is small which is nice. It’s also easy to set up if you have a standard home network. I don’t, and that made it a little harder, but that’s my own doing. The setup requires that you install some software on your system. This software is Windows specific, so if you have a Mac or Linux you’re out of luck and should not buy this print server.

This device has a few flaws:

    1. It will NOT accept a WPA2 key that has spaces in it. Since I had a passphrase with spaces I actually had to change my passphrase to get this print server to work wirelessly. If you’re hard wiring it then this wouldn’t be an issue, but if you’re wiring it then why pay extra for the wireless feature? Since it’s good practice to use passphrases and especially ones with spaces in them I consider this a fairly serious flaw. Bad Zonet.

    2. This thing gets HOT. After it’s on for just a few minutes it’s to the point where you can burn yourself if you touch it in the wrong spot – which is about half the unit. Hopefully the heat won’t cause this to burn up. I’ve seen that happen with other components that run this hot.

    3. It’s so small that the wires attached to it can move it around. I ended up attaching some velcro to it and stuck it to the side of the shelf my printer is on. Maybe that’s a little bit OCD so I’ll call this flaw relatively minor.

We’ll see how it holds up. But for now my family is happy to be able to easily share a single printer. And I’m happy that I don’t have to keep one computer on all the time to make this happen.

    Don’t waste your money!
The Zonet Wireless USB 802.11+ Ethernet Print Server came in a nice box when I opened it the print server appeared to be used or maybe a return. I could not get it to work. I could find the print server with the supplied software but I could not change the settings. Then it stopped working completely. Emailed Geeks and they immediately sent another. This one was defiantly used. Again I could not get it to work properly. I could find the wireless print server but I could not change the settings. I would change the setting with the supplied software and it would write to the print sever but the settings never changed. This one would work when connected to an Ethernet cable. I have several print servers that work hard wired to my network; I need a wireless print server so this product is of no use to me. I would not recommend this wireless print server to anyone, EVER! After doing some research I found out the manufacturer Zonet went out of business and there is no factory warranty or support. Not happy with Geeks! This is the first time I purchased from them and I am not sure I will again. I feel they misrepresent and sold the product as new, they never mention manufacturer went out of business and there is no warranty or support.
